The Churchill Hotel

3413 Reviews

This late Georgian mansion stands on its own grounds and has the appearance of a country house hotel, yet is just a short walk from York Minster and all major city attractions. The Churchill has just been entirely refurbished in a style that blends the building's history with contemporary insertions. One of York's leading luxury hotels, the hotel is a unique establishment offering stylish bedrooms and suites plus the renowned fine dining brasserie and a relaxed bar.

Beautiful interior and lovely dining igloos in the garden, our family stayed for two nights in the small rooms next to the bar. My mother and I’s room was comfortable despite it being quite small, though we did struggle with the heating. My grandparents room next door was apparently quite loud as I think we were next to a rail line or main road so they struggled to sleep well. The bar amenities are lovely and the hotel team members were very welcoming, however there are better value for money places to stay in York.

Not a person to ever write a review but have walked past the hotel many times and seen the igloos outside, me and my partner Kyle thought we’d pop in just to enquire about them. Ian was on the reception desk and was the most welcoming individual, we have never even stayed overnight in this hotel and we are now going to be booking to on our next visit to York, we travel from Liverpool often to York and because of Ian we will be back to the Churchill most definitely, he was so knowledgeable about the place and you could tell he loves his job letting us take a look around and talking us through all the offerings See you soon Ian

Just returned from a glorious trip to this great hotel, fantastic location, a short walk from the Minster and centre, good food, bar and friendly knowledgeable staff, fantastic room, immensely comfortable and spotlessly clean! Can't fault anything!

Churchill rearranged our trip for us when it was non refundable, which was good of them. In doing so we had to pay extra for the Bridal room, the only room available. I think, tired and shabby best describes it to be honest. We arrived early but were able to book in early, so thanks again. The problems started the first morning when at 7.45 we heard banging and scratching, which seemed to be in the room. Transpires there where workmen next door doing refurbishment, which apparently they shouldn't have been. Problem really is, if we can hear them, then logic says they can hear us! The were working by what had been a door between rooms. It felt like an invasion of privacy. Reception offered us another room, which we took. No complaints about how they dealt with it. However, when in the new room someone entered but quickly left when realising it was occupied. Then this morning when packing to leave, my wife found a pair of tights behind the cushion of the chair. Think our real issue, despite the good things, is we felt a bit like naughty kids when we complained. A mixed bag of experiences

Popped in for a pizza, although nice arrived on time. I then waited 5 minutes ( yes I timed it) to receive fries ordered at the same time! My pizza then lukewarm on arriving to eat it. Dear god its not hard so get it together for better customer experiences ...

Luxurious hotel, nicely decorated, very clean. We stayed in the Bunker which was a different experience but we did miss a window view and some fresh air. Staff all very friendly. Didn’t get all of their names but Ian on Reception gave us a friendly, professional oversight of the hotel and local area & whilst we sat in one of the Igloos which have heaters and music, we were looked after by Wayne who gave us a warm friendly service whilst being outside most of the time in the freezing cold. Would definitely return

Avoid this overrated hotel. I visited on Saturday 17th February and had a very poor experience. The receptionist was obstructive, dismissive and rude. She did noh offer any apology or take responsibility for the company accepting a booming via buyagift that they could not deliver. She did not offer any apology, understanding or attempt to solve the problem even after we explained that we had driven an hour to go there. She did not offer any explanation why they had accepted the booking, sent me a confirmation and then a second email to confirm I would be there but then on arrival refused the booking stating that we had booked it incorrectly so essentially tough and get out. She spoke to us with an air of disgust and outrage that we could possibly think they would take a voucher on the Saturday after valentine's. When I showed her the confirmation emails, she refused to engage and we were left with no alternative but to leave feeling humiliated.
