Clean and comfortable with great central location. Breakfast very good with table service for hot food choices - a nice change from usual bun fight over a buffet. Slight downside was continual very loud music played everywhere in the restaurant and bars made conversation difficult and we would have liked a more relaxing romantic vibe rather a disco when having cocktails or dinner . Restaurants and bars too dark . Think this dim lighting was supposed to create atmosphere but just meant we couldn’t read the menus .Our phone torches came in handy! We had pre ordered and booked a 3 course dinner on Mother’s Day for our last night .The food was excellent and portions generous to the extent that we ended up not leaving enough room for our sweet course . The waitress said if we cancelled the puddings we had ordered there would be no refund as meal had been paid in advance . However she kindly suggested we could have the puddings we had chosen delivered to our room to enjoy later which we agreed was an excellent idea . We. paid for our drinks and left a nice tip as our waitress had been so helpful. Sadly we waited in vain for our puddings which never arrived . Seems trivial complaining about puddings going awol but it did finish our last night in York on a disappointing note.
Show more...Thank you so much for an incredible say. We visited for my husband's 60th birthday. We had a room up grade for £15. To a club deluxe room. This was fabulous. Thank you so much. We had also booked car parking. And able to use this when we arrived at 11am even though check in was not toll 3pm
Show more...I arrived with my adult daughter one hour after check in started. We were celebrating her last night in York as a student, so I had booked Malmaison as a treat in a Club Room. The reception staff were very friendly. They apologised as our room was not ready. After checking with housekeeping, she discovered it would not be ready for some time. She said she would look to upgrade our room for free, which was such a lovely surprise for us. She checked this with the manager 'Fran'. Fran then proceeded to begin a detailed search on the computer system to find us a room which was alike our original booking, and clearly not the upgraded one - which had been mentioned. After a solemn 5 minutes frantically searching, she successfully found us the same room booked 2 floors higher. So no upgrade. An awkward start to our stay, which just seemed petty and deflating from the onset by the manager. We enjoyed cocktails later in Sora, which is a lovely restaurant. We then decided to treat ourselves to room service snacks as opposed to dining out. We rang to order from the advertised QR code menu in our room, only to be told this menu finishes in the evening to be replaced by a few selected dishes, which we didn't fancy. So I think the hotel should perhaps make this clear ideally. Very comfy beds, robes and coffee machine in the club rooms are nice touches.
Show more...Two nights at Malmaison mid week was a pleasant experience. The room was comfortable, albeit some may find the open plan bathroom off putting. Breakfast was enjoyable with a good selection of fresh fruit and pastries. Hot food was cooked to order. The service in the restaurant is a bit hot and miss with some staff floating around rather than being attentive. Gym facilities are good. My main gripe was the lack of a Nespresso machine in the room. For a hotel of this price range I expect the tea and coffee to be better than a Premier Inn but clearly not.
Show more...Stayed for two nights. Check in at 3pm. We emailed the hotel to pre-book the onsite parking. There are only a few spaces so pre booking is essential. It's £25 per night. It is located round the back of the hotel. A bit of a tight squeeze but the shutters will open once a member of staff have your booking details. We stayed in a standard room. It was compact but nice and clean and was perfect for us. The lighting could be better for doing your hair and make-up in the evening but we loved it. The shower was sooo nice. The bed was comfortable. Our first night we booked the bar and grill in the hotel. The staff were really lovely and attentive. Big shout out to Bethan and Tyler. The food was delicious. We ate far too much, but we wanted a cocktail in the upstairs lounge area called 'Sora'. We had pre booked a table for just cocktails for 9.15pm. There is a separate lift to get to Sora. It was very busy but the vibe was brilliant. Such a gorgeous place. We had our cocktails, but wanted to venture out into outside balcony before going to bed. It was a bit cold but the view is fabulous. It would be lovely in the summer. I would definitely recommend going to this hotel because it is right in the heart of things. The 'Wall' is just in front if the hotel and the city is just over the bridge. All easy walking distance. We did not use our car on either day. We will be back.
Show more...We stayed here for one night, for a trip where we were going to dinner near the Cathedral followed by a show at the Grand Opera House. We arrived by train, and the hotel is a short walk from the station. It was also no more than a ten minute walk to the Cathedral, and ten minutes back to the hotel after the show. Perfect. The hotel room was really good, as was the breakfast. We will certainly use this hotel again if we stay in York
Show more...We stayed here for a long weekend and were pleased to find a hotel that is dog friendly. We were booked into a Club Deluxe Room which had promise as it was a good size, but seemed to lack basic features that make your stay comfortable. The air-con is more complicated that it needs to be (might just be me) and the touch controls don't work very well. The wardrobe had a light which is great, but the cupboard next to it with shelves, safe etc doesn't and was pretty much pitch black, we had to use our phone torch to see in here. There isn't anywhere to sit and relax. This room style has a long "waiting room" style bench along the back wall which is quite narrow and a domed leather, so you just slide straight off. At the end of the bed there is a footstool and a large gap (maybe 10 feet) to the wall/tv, ideally there should be a small sofa so you could relax and watch the tv. There was a tiny table and only 1 chair. The bathroom is spacious with separate shower and bath, which is great but the shower isn't very powerful. Bizarrely only has a tiny heated towel rail above the sink. No other hooks etc so when you are out of the shower there is nowhere to hang your towel to dry, really stupid. The separated loo is dark and the light is behind the "user" so for guys standing, you block all the light and are pretty much in the dark. The communal areas are nice, and the restaurant is excellent with great food and staff (also dog friendly!) Could be great, just needs more thought.
Show more...Absolutely lovely stay in York Malmaison, deluxe suite with city and river views, room was perfect! We had dinner in the main restaurant and we couldn't fault it, the atmosphere was great, the staff were lovely, Neve in particularly was fantastic with our little girl, so friendly and helpful! We had breakfast and there was so much choice and the cooked breakfast was delicious. Booked 2 treatments in the spa and again, couldn't fault the service provided. Would definitely recommend and definitely visit again.
Show more...We had a lovely stay at the Malmaison York. The location is perfect for walking into the city. There was a complimentary upgrade to the room when we arrived, which was much appreciated. The room was gorgeous and very spacious with a large bed and nice view out to the river. We also enjoyed cocktails in the bar. The whole hotel is decorated beautifully. A particular thankyou to Rory who went out of his way to welcome us and showed us the wonderful views from the sky bar
