Arrived early but were allowed to check-in anyway. Lovely spot, centrally located and with fantastic staff pleased to assist. Provided us with an overview of York's sights & helpful advice to tour around. Located within a 10-15 minute walk of centreville, shopping, and the Railway Museum as well. Parking on-site is a definite bonus! Rooms with ensuite shower are tastefully appointed with treats, coffee/tea. Mind the stairs; a bit of a climb but well worth the effort! Optional breakfast at extra cost is well worth the price. Overall, a super site, highly recommended!

We stayed for 2 nights and the location was great to explore York. We found the staff most helpful, with advice on the area and the amenities in the house. The breakfast on both mornings was excellent with a good variety to choose from. We would definitely recommend this guest house to friends and family.

A really lovely central location within a few minutes walk to York Minster, The Shambles, Betty's Tea Rooms and other city centre attractions. A stylish Town House, very clean, comfortable and cosy, the breakfast was excellent. The staff are all very friendly and helpful. Pre-booking parking is essential, our only slight concern was that the marking of the allocated parking bays needs to be made more clear, perhaps by giving residents the actual parking code displayed.

Fantastic stay, we love coming to York and on this occasion required a place that was quite centrally located that would also be quiet for a good night's sleep. This gem of a B&B fit the bill. Husband took care of the booking/checking in on this occasion which he found straight forward (Booked directly via website which guarantees free parking which you don't get otherwise!) Then he rang ahead of checking in as our event bumped into the time we were expected, not an issue as was given information/how to access without having to have a physical person let us in etc. You get a little bag with room/front door key and breakfast options, etc, for your visit. Stayed in room 7, is located on the 3rd floor, bit of a climb after Husband ran a 10k that morning but quite manageable when you haven't ran 6 miles! 😅 Loved how comfy, spacious, and clean the bed/room and bathroom was. Extra plus having a bath to soak weary bones! Quirky note, though, the main sink taps both take a lot of turning to provide water, not an issue, just a charm of an old house. We live in a 250yr old house ourselves, so we are experienced to what that is like. Decent night's sleep. Husband opted to pay £15pp for breakfast as had to head back earlier than expected. He had the full English breakfast which he was very happy with, and choose pancakes for myself. I was impressed with the breakfast selection (loved the berry compote!) and additional options for toppings for the pancakes, though the top drop scone as I would call it was a little burnt, thankfully it was only the first one! Overall I enjoyed breakfast though wasn't sure why the price was separate and at £15pp a little bit more dear than expected. However the staff we met at breakfast, were friendly and welcoming which adds to the charm of the place itself and we would definitely stay here again 😊

Spent last night at No 23 our 2nd stay at this wonderful place. Absolutely amazing and helpful staff, lovely room, comfy bed and great breakfast. Only a short walk to the town and the parking is a massive bonus! Would definitely recommend to others and stay here for our next visit to York.

We are regular visitors and have always really enjoyed our stay. On every visit we have been made very welcome. The staff are excellent and very caring and the service is always first class. The furnishings and laundry are of the highest quality. An excellent place to stay.

St Mary's is in an ideal location for doing the touristy stuff in York. Our room was very small but had everything we needed. The bed was very comfortable. The shower room was small, a good shower but we found it difficult to reduce the heat. The toiletries were lovely. The hotel is beautifully decorated. We didn't have breakfast (at an additional cost of £15 per person) as we were still full from our dinner the night before so I can't comment on the food. The only disappointment was the parking - we chose this guest house as it advertised free parking (limited). However, when we arrived we were told that since we had booked through booking.com, rather than direct with the hotel, we were not entitled to the free parking. We feel prospective clients should be made aware of this fact. Fortunately, there is a large public car park nearby - it cost us £21 in total to park our car.

Lovely, enjoyable stay, the room was nice, cosy and practical. Great location to the city centre approx. 5mins away, and the car parking included at the rear. The weather was absolutely freezing during our visit, but the hotel was nice and warm. Thank you.

Lovely warm room on the coldest night of the year. 23 St Mary’s is nice and central for all the events York has to offer. It is also conveniently walking distance from the station and adjacent to a City of York car park.
