Show more...Stayed at this hotel during the York Races and couldn't fault it. Quirky hotel in the very centre of York, close to bars, restaurants and pubs Our room was at the front of the hotel overlooking the courtyards and had great touches within the room. Molten Brown in room products, luxury fluffy towels and probably my best sleep Ive had for a long time - maybe the Champagne helped too Staff are lovely and friendly. Would definitely recommend and I've already booked for the October dates later this year as we enjoyed it so much
Show more...We’ve stayed here twice now and find it very handy when we are staying in York for an event or concert. Our room this time was in the lower basement area and had a brick vaulted ceiling. It was a little low but was something special to look at. Room was a sensible size but not big and bathroom clean and well appointed. Reception was friendly and helpful and the ladies working there made us feel comfortable. The hotel is in the centre of York and in the late evening there is a level of chaos going on that makes you think it’s going to be a disturbed sleep however the location just set back means you hear nothing from outside through the night. That makes it very convenient without the issues normally associated with city centre hotels. Overall a great place to stay in York full of character. Dropped one point because internet was a bit iffy, apparently a supplier issue, and I feel it’s quite expensive given there is no breakfast availability or any additional facilities. For best parking I would suggest Margate off Frederick st.
Show more...Stayed for one night in Feb. Excellent location right in the middle of York. JC is a nice quirky hotel that had a homely feel to it. Staff were very friendly and even offered us a glass of wine on arrival. We had room 14 on the top floor, a good-sized room with plenty of space and a comfortable bed. The only downside was the cleanliness, it was clean but also grubby in parts, various bits of mould in the shower, a big damp patch on one of the walls in the room and the worst was the FILTHY water tank on the coffee machine, physical mould in the tank!!! Mentioned this at reception on checkout, so hopefully, it'll be rectified.
Show more...The hotel is centrally located which is fantastic, we usually stay for 2 nights in York and stay outside the centre however with our stay this time only being 1 night we wanted something central. Building really quirky with a welcome glass of wine which is a nice touch. Our room was located down in the basement which unfortunately lead to some disappointment - we did book the most basic room but some points to be aware of when being allocated a basement room - the building is obviously old so the ceiling above us was not very forgiving, we could hear every foot step, it was actually extremely Disturbing. A small window also looked out over neighbouring shared outdoor space, we closed the blind straight away for privacy and left it shut which made the already small room feel quite claustrophobic. Bedside lights were different bulbs, one was a warm white and the other bright white - this is only a small detail but actually quite disorientating in the room when used. There was also a constant noise of some sort of fan or unit outside the bedroom window. The bathroom is very nice, the shower is very big and is decorated in modern tiles. The hysterical touches in the room and public areas are really nice and we enjoyed them. Overall the room does need attention - the phone and coffee machine were covered in dust aswell as around the outside of the room, paint work needs touching up. The tea tray in the room was nice with bottled water, coffee machine and tea facilities, toiletries in the room were also good. If you are looking for a central location this is a good spot, I have to add the staff were amazing - really made our stay nice, super welcoming, friendly and chatty. The room just needs a once over and bear in mind it’s quite noisy - for this sole reason we wouldn’t return - it wasn’t partially an undisturbed night which to us is quite important (we have small children at home so a night away means we are looking for a great sleep) despite our non return with a few points looked at this place could be a super gem.
Show more...Stayed for 3 nights for my partners birthday. Wanted somewhere a little special with character and this place was perfect. We stayed in bedroom 4 which was in the basement and was lovely and clean. We got a glass of wine on arrival which was a lovely touch also. What I really loved about the rooms here was that you could see the historical aspects of the building with the wooden beams but the place was lovely and modern. The hotel is very central but tucked away so is very quiet.
Show more...We've travelled to York several times and stayed in various hotels or Airbnb's, but we think we have now found the place we will stay in every time! From it's adorable hidden entrance off the high street we had an incredibly warm welcome and had such a gorgeous room. The hotel itself had some incredible architecture to it as well and a lot of history. We only really needed somewhere to crash but the rooms had everything we needed and more: quiet, comfy bed, excellent facilities. Couldn't fault this place!
Show more...Great location. In the centre and short walk to the sites we wanted to see. Parking was a little further than we expected but was fine and easy, only paying on exit for the time you’ve been there. Our only negative was the creaking floorboards above us and being able to hear a lot from the room above us. We were in a basement room (room 4). The guests in the room above got up at 6am and had a bath and we heard everything. A bath being filled, used and then emptied from above is much louder than we expected. That along with voices, them walking about and what we think was the coffee machine, we weren’t going back to sleep. Other than that it was great. Just make sure you don’t have a lower floor room if you sleep light
Show more...The Judges Court is a perfect place to stay whilst visiting York. Although it's in the centre of everything it's tucked out of the way so you don't hear the noise of the City. The team at the Hotel were all so lovely & friendly. The room we had was a lovely size, clean with fab art on the wall and perfect lighting and furniture it had tea, coffee, chocolate, biscuits, complimentary glass of wine when you check in perfect! The bathroom was clean and fresh and had Molton Brown toiletries which was lovely. We loved the fact that the hotel doesn't have a bar or restaurant as there are so many on your doorstep to choose from, literally spoilt for choice there is definitely no need for them. Thank you Judges Court we will be back again in 2024..
Show more...Myself and my daughter travelled to York for our yearly Christmas shopping trip! We wasn’t disappointed with this little hotel, we stayed in room 14 which was at the top of a long spiral staircase. This just added to the quirky fun of the place. The complimentary glass of wine helped the climb 🤣 It was an ideal location for the centre. Great communication beforehand re car parks etc. staff really friendly. Definitely going to be stopping there again xx

Had a fantastic overnight stay in this little gem of a hotel! The building itself is beautiful, the rooms are comfortable, spacious and decorated beautifully. The staff were all lovely, welcoming and polite. We got an unexpected glass of wine on arrival which was lovely! And there are all the amenities you would require in the room including a mini fridge and coffee making facilities. The location is smack bang in the middle of York centre in walking distance from the shambles. We will definitely be back 😁😁
